5/7/11 - Time is Running Out!!

You need to finish-up your spring fertilizing really soon!

Pinellas County’s “Summer Fertilizer Ban” goes into effect June 1st.

The ban prohibits the use of lawn and landscape fertilizers containing nitrogen or phosphorous from June 1st through September 30th.

County experts believe our summer rains do wash excess nitrogen and phosphorous into area lakes, the bay & gulf, which is not good for the health of our waterways.

1/19/11 - New Fertilizer Ordinance in Pinellas County Takes Effect.

Straight from the county here are the new guidelines:

The use of fertilizers in Pinellas County is restricted in accordance with the Landscape Maintenance and Fertilizer Use and Application ordinance (Pinellas County Code Article XIII, Chapter 58).

From October 1 - May 31 of each year:

• All lawn and landscape fertilizers containing nitrogen must have at least 50% of the nitrogen as slow-release.

• The sale and use of lawn and landscape fertilizers containing phosphorous is prohibited in Pinellas County.

From June 1 - September 30 of each year:

• The sale and use of lawn and landscape fertilizers containing nitrogen or phosphorous is prohibited in Pinellas County.

• Use iron and other micronutrient products to green up turf and plants.

11/2/10 - Thanks to everyone who came to our little seminar/presentation on October 23rd.  We hope you all had a great time and got some new and interesting ideas of how to design your landscape.

10/10/10 - Upcoming Presentation - Join us for a fun presentation on creative ways to combine herbs and vegetables with the ornamental flowers and shrubs in your garden. Mary-Beth Wagner, Horticulturist and owner of Advanced Art of Gardening, will show you how the color, texture, and growth habits of various edible plants can complement and enhance your existing landscape. Four different theme gardens will be reviewed, and you will be provided with a handout that lists plant choices for each theme to inspire experimentation in your own garden.

1/21/10 - Cold Damaged Palms -  It is an old school of thought that you should wait until the weather warms up before doing anything to your palms, but the University of Florida has just released some new information that there are a few things you can do.  Read more about it here and on the University of Florida's website http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/mg318

7/17/09 - We have done some in house testing with Spinosad and received very quick, positive results with controlling the Snowbush Spanworm.  We recommend using it if you still have leaves left on your Snowbush.  If you are left with bare stems we recommend a good contact killer like Fertilome's Carbaryl.  You can read more about Spinosad here.

4/15/09  RAIN BARRELS! - Collect rain water to reuse later for watering your plants, your lawn, washing your car, anything!  They are already setup with a spigot, overflow, and filter lid to keep leaves, mosquitoes, and anything else out of the water.  We have 58 gallon barrels in stock now.

3/25/09 EARTH BOXES ARE HERE ! - We currently have the Earth Boxes in stock as well as the replant kits if you already have an Earth Box and are ready to refresh it.  They come with everything you need except soil and plants.  We also carry fresh herb and vegetable plants for use in the Earth Boxes or your own garden.
